The Virtual Global Workforce
Remote teams, telecommuting, and office "hoteling" have become familiar terms over the past decade or so. Today, almost a quarter of the U.S. workforce "telecommutes" at least some of the time. More and more, teams or entire workforces can be located in different parts of the country or the world and still collaborate effectively. This learning track explores the opportunities and challenges of leading virtual employees. We examine new ideas and trends, and delve into what works in remote workforce management.

The global workday, circa 2008, may mean this: a worker in Boise hands off communication at the end of his shift to a colleague in Bangladesh. Poland, Maine and Poland, E.U. are six time zones apart, yet employees in each may need to work as united corporate entity, their physical distance invisible to their shared customer base. The globalization of industry and markets and advances in information communication technology tools means that the time for excuses is over-high performing companies must collaborate to create global teams that interact as seamless units. Yet common pitfalls still remain-including language barriers, cultural misconceptions, and feelings of unit-based isolation.

Learn what your company can do to combat these common missteps and ensure team success. We'll focus on real life and current initiatives around the global, discussing different ways of creating cost effective measures that lead to team collaboration. This webcast will examine ideas such as short term cultural exchange programs, technical conferencing, and effective communication techniques. We'll gain a new appreciation for seeing the world from a global perspective, and learn what management and team members can do to better prepare themselves for these challenges by taking advantage of their strengths and promoting their successes.
